In the Feb. 1 article, “Local Schools Leading the Way in Integration,” we were satisfied to read about new efforts in the Greater Park Hill and Stapleton communities to push for more integrated schools. As educators, we’re encouraged that our colleagues understand the moral imperative of serving students from all backgrounds.

City Council is considering a proposal to purchase the Park Hill Golf Course from the Clayton Trust and neighbors are already gearing up to oppose any changes to that property. Opposition to any development here is misguided. Because of the proximity to transit, it is critical that the City is able to strike an appropriate balance between housing and green space on the Park Hill Golf Course Property.

As part of a successful effort to foster a unified school culture, George Washington High School has recently instituted a curricular model providing freshman and sophomore students exposure to a full range of subjects and then assisting in the choice of a pathway (College Prep, Advance Placement, International Baccalaureate, or Career Connect) to focus on as juniors and seniors.
