Volunteers are incredibly important to today’s nonprofits. According to the latest Bureau of Labor statistics, there are nearly 62 million volunteers in America. The Independent Sector values each volunteer hour given at more than $20 an hour. As a staff person, consultant, trainer and volunteer herself, Lynn O’Connell has worked with volunteers who are board members, fundraisers, special event coordinators, and general program staff. She is executive director of Computer C.O.R.E., which offers intensive training in basic computer skills to low-income adults. Lynn oversees a staff of seven and more than 185 volunteers who give approximately 12,000 hours annually. Lynn is a past president of Volunteer Alexandria.
