After directing GOODFELLAS and CAPE FEAR, Scorsese traded in brutal violence and high-voltage drama for storytelling tools of a different kind: subtle social warfare, repressed passion, and exquisite fashion – the latter of which won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design.
