EMERGENCY
Emergency blankets are used for warmth in dire situations — at border crossings by refugees and immigrants, by survivors of fires and floods, by the homeless.
My paintings on emergency blankets are based on warmth-giving textiles — Mexican and Guatemalan serapes, Navajo blankets, and traditional quilts — and utilize the folded-in grid which emerges when the 5 x 3 in. packets are opened to their 7 x 4 ft. size. Made of aluminized polymer, emergency blankets look fragile, flimsy and unreliable, but in fact are tough and substantial, and are often life-saving.

BIOPHILIA
Nature is the consummate designer: a source for ideas since art-making began. This exhibit matches animal patterns with structures shaped by gravity and tension. The four installations incorporate elements borrowed from the natural world: river water, rock, air movement, and sunlight.
