Art for Artisans: A Kick off to Fair Trade Month
October 14, 2014
Ten Thousand Villages Denver announces its premier fundraising event ART for ARTISANS, a kick off to fair trade month. The event will be held at BEACONS Creative Community Space 2630 East 3rd Avenue Denver, CO 80206 from 5:30 to 8:30 PM Friday, October 3rd.
As a Cherry Creek North resident, the retailer has been experiencing a downturn in traffic based on several construction projects in the area, the hope is that ART for ARTISANS will help offset these difficulties. Ten Thousand Villages Denver Board Chair Susan Wagner says, “This event is about how fair trade makes us a more global society. Being able to support artisans in Denver and around the world is a joy for us to do every day. We want to ensure we are able to do that for years to come.”
ART for ARTISANS benefits the Ten Thousand Villages mission that one day all artisans in developing countries will earn a fair wage, be treated with dignity and respect and be able to live a life of quality. To create these opportunities Ten Thousand Villages partners with over 130 artisan groups in 38 developing countries by selling their products and telling their stories. The nonprofit fair trade store has been a Denver staple for over 30 years and is affiliated with the national Ten Thousand Villages fair trade retailer.
The event will feature food, drink, fair trade stories, and a silent auction emceed by 9News Producer and Guest Host Tawnya Rush. Tickets are $25 a person available at 2626 East Third Avenue Denver, CO 80206 or via phone at 303-316-8773. More information can be found at www.tenthousandvillages.com/denver.
