Aurora Potters’ Guild Fall Show and Sale
November 8, 2014
The Aurora Potters’ Guild annual Fall Show and Sale will be held Saturday, November 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Aurora Center for Active Adults, 30 Del Mar Circle. Discover unique gifts for family and friends at this sale featuring hand-thrown pottery and unique sculptures created by numerous local potters within the Aurora Potters’ Guild. New pieces are added throughout the day.
Each sale features a member of the Aurora Potters’ Guild, and this sale features potter Amy Thorne’s handcrafted raku pieces. She’s known for her raku plates that have a Native American feel to them decorated with bears, horses, arrows and simple geometric designs.
Another favorite technique of Amy’s is saggar firing. After painting a piece with Ferric Chloride (aka etchant solution), she loosely wraps the aluminum foil around the piece which becomes the saggar. She adds horse hair, string, coiled wire and drafting tape to make designs on the piece. The foil is then closed around the pot like a “baked potato” and fired until the foil has lost its shine and is starting to fall off the piece. The colors range from peach to pink to red of all varying shades. It’s “like a box of chocolates” because one never knows what you’re gonna get!
Stop by and find great hand crafted unique holiday gifts, from the artistic to the functional. For more information, call 303-344-1776 or visit www.auroragov.org/pottery.
