Black History Tomorrow Poetry Slam
February 24, 2022
Local BIPOC students met with local slam poets Bianca Mikahn, Panama Soweto and Hakeem Furious at the museum to create poetry inspired by the theme of Afrofuturism. On Feb. 24 their work will be showcased at the DAM.
The students created poems rooted in reflection and response through dialogue and art prompted by a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr about “riches of freedom and the security of justice.” The youth took the prompt as an opportunity to imagine and express how they would like to construct their future.
On Feb. 24, from 3-5 pm, watch as these students compete in a Poetry Slam with cash prizes for the top three performers. Hosted by Hakeem Furious, this event will be included in general admission, which is free for youth 18 and younger.
