Citizen Scientist Volunteer Training: Colorado Dragonfly Monitoring Project
April 21, 2018
Thanks to a new partnership with the Butterfly Pavilion of Westminster, our Sand Creek Greenway friends and volunteers are invited to participate as “citizen scientist” volunteers to measure the impact of climate change on migratory and resident dragonflies on our Sand Creek!
Commitment: Attend a training session and then visit a designated section (0.5 to 1 mile) of the Greenway 6-12 times between May and October to measure the presence of dragonflies on our Sand Creek.
Who can participate: People over 16 years old (or parents with kids at least 8 years old). Pairing up is recommended and only one person needs to attend the training.
Training Session: We will hold one training session in Denver, at our Sand Creek Greenway offices, Saturday, April 21 from 1:30-4:30 (7350 E. 29th Ave, Suite 200 conference room); however there are other sessions available at the Butterfly Pavilion in April. You only need to attend a single training to participate.
Sign up/ask questions: For this volunteer opportunity, we invite you to contact Katrina Loewy at the Butterfly Pavilion as your next step. Katrina is their Research and Conservation Coordinator and she’ll be leading the effort, aided by Sand Creek Greenway staff here in Denver, Aurora and Commerce City. Katrina can sign you up for the training session, and your participation in the study, AND she can answer all your questions! Email: email@example.com; Phone: (720) 974-0452
