Cocktails for a Cause (CFAC) hosts event in support of Gateway Battered Women’s Services
October 21, 2015
Denver — Cocktails for a Cause (CFAC) will be hosting their next event in support of Gateway Battered Women’s Services, a local Denver nonprofit, from 5:30 – 10 PM on October 21, 2015 at the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum. Gateway Battered Women’s Services provides safe shelter for women and children fleeing violence in their home, a 24-hour telephone refuge for immediate crisis assistance, short- and long-term support counseling, and advocacy services within the City of Aurora’s criminal justice system. While in shelter care, Gateway provides three meals a day, snacks, clothing, personal care items, bus passes and assistance in accessing community resources. In addition, Gateway’s Emergency Shelter is able to accept pets into shelter when victims express concern about leaving their pets behind. “The Bailey Project” provides a safe place for pets and sends the message that abuse is not acceptable at any level. At this event, CFAC will be collecting specific items to help Gateway Battered Women’s Services serve their constituents: from snacks, to pajamas, underwear and socks, to basic over- the-counter medications. For a complete list of suggested items please see the invitation on our website at: http://www.cocktailsforacauseco.org/events/gateway-battered-womens-services/. All event attendees are asked to bring something as their “admission ticket” into the otherwise free event where wine and food is served.
CFAC holds events three times per year for different charities needing items to help them provide services to their constituents. Guests to a CFAC event bring items from a list provided to them in their invitation and those items become their admission to the event, which provides drinks and appetizers and an opportunity to meet other like-minded philanthropic women. 100% of all items collected at a CFAC event are delivered to the charity that night. The items have immediate impact for the constituents. A short presentation from the honored charity is a highlight of the evening’s activities along with the immensely popular silent auction.
Since Cocktails for a Cause was launched in July 2009, the 501 © 3 nonprofit has hosted 21 events and delivered to local charities nearly 320,000 needed items valued at over $280,000. Last June’s event for the Tennyson Center brought in over 27,604 items valued at $22,304. “We have incredibly generous attendees to our events and they appreciate donating items knowing they will be in the hands of someone in need the very next day. It’s why we call what we do “hand-to-hand” giving,” said René Harding, Founder and President, CFAC.
CFAC relies on sponsors to help with funding their events and they are grateful to Thrivent Financial, PCL Construction, Fireplace & Grill Experts, Hallmark Home Loans, Morgan Stanley – The Pelican Group, LipBar, Fidelity Title, Montgomery, Little and Soran PC, Denver Transit Partners and Lacy’s Chair Cover Rentals. A women-owned business is featured for each event and provides a small gift to all attendees; at the Gateway Battered Women’s Services event, The Denver Team Room is the woman-owned business sponsor. In-kind donations of products and services are provided by Serendipity Catering, Ruckus Media, Parties Extraordinaire, and Moye White LLP.
