Colorado Rails & Cocktails

August 4

An evening of history and drinks at the Colorado Railroad Museum.

Enjoy an evening of Colorado history! This month’s topic is Lucius Beebe and Charles Clegg, who also happen to be the subjects of the Museum’s current double exhibit! Join photographer and railroad historian John Ryan (co-author of the Center for Railroad Photography & Art’s 2018 book Beebe & Clegg: Their Enduring Photographic Legacy) as he discusses the lives of this larger-than-life railroading duo.
Beebe and Clegg were prolific railroad photographers, authors, and an openly gay couple during the 1940s-1960s. In this presentation, Ryan will review their colorful biographies, and focus on their time in Colorado—including how they were attracted to old mining towns and the charms of the state’s narrow gauge railroads. His presentation will feature photos of their time in Colorado—most of them not previously published. There will also be time for questions at the end of the presentation.
Admission: $20 Adults (ages 21+ only). Includes 2 beverages of your choice (beer, wine or soda) and snacks. Doors open at 6 p.m.; Bar opens at 6:30 p.m. Presentation begins promptly at 7 p.m., and for August will be held in the Museum’s outdoor Pavilion space which now features a large-screen video wall. Prior to the program, we encourage you to tour our two current exhibitions – Beebe and Clegg: Their Enduring Photographic Legacy and Romance Along the Rails: The Phenomenon of Beebe and Clegg, both located in the Museum Depot’s Lower Gallery.
