League of Women Voters Denver Presents: Dreamers: View the Movie and Meet the Dreamers
January 22, 2019
This 30-minute documentary tells the story of five Dreamers who are no different from our own young relatives except they have no stable status in our country.
When noted Denver film producer Dick Alweis approached longtime League of Women Voters of Denver member Jane Wasson about his idea to film metro area Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) participants she was all in. This 30-minute documentary tells the story of five Dreamers who are no different from our own relatives in their mid-twenties to early thirties except they have no stable status in our country. Jane and the League invite you to join us in viewing the film and meeting some of the Dreamers. They will answer questions and share their experiences after the movie.
Dick Alweis helped establish The Denver International Film Festival in 1978 and has produced, directed and edited films and television programs. In 2011, Alweis completed a multi-part series, “Rebels Remembered,” documenting the civil rights struggle in the Rocky Mountain West. Quite a number of Denver Leaguers were featured in that film, which is now used in Denver Public Schools.
The program will be inspiring.
