Meet Denverite Paula Burger, a native of Poland and an American citizen for decades. An artist and now an author of a memoir entitled “Paula’s Window,” she was a girl of 11 when she, her father and little brother joined the legendary band of resistance fighters, the Bielski Partisans, who outwitted German troops for two years while hiding in the Polish forests. Paula was 14 when the surreal nightmare of survival came to an end and her life began anew. Join us as Paula talks about her childhood journey through the Holocaust and her triumph over trauma through art and the love of her family. Paula’s focus with her paintings is to capture the beauty in life with the bold use of color and imagery. Her art has been shown in galleries throughout Colorado and one of her works hangs in the state capitol. Paula’s book will be available for purchase after the event.
