Neal Cassady Birthday Bash with Heather Dalton

February 9, 2019

Join us on the second day of the annual Neal Cassady Birthday Bash weekend in celebrating what would have been the 93nd birthday of counter culture icon and Denver’s self described “unnatural son,” Neal Cassady!

Featuring a discussion after the film with director, Heather Dalton. The discussion will be moderated by Denver Beat historian Mark Bliesener.

Don’t forget to join us in BarFly at 4pm, before the screening to see speakers including musicians David Amram and Jello Biafra, poetry and panel discussions celebrating Neal Cassady, Denver and the West. Free and open to the public.

Other Bash Weekend Events: On February 8th at 8:00pm, at the Mercury Cafe, The David Amram Quartet and Jello Biafra will headline the annual Bash, featuring music, poetry and reminiscences celebrating the life of Neal Cassady.

Neal Cassady was a larger than life figure. Neal Cassady: The Denver Years is a documentary based on the autobiographical accounts of Neal Cassady, his troubled youth in Denver and the crucial role that he played in the germination of American beat culture.

His unencumbered lifestyle and relentless command of language would influence a generation of writers. He was introduced to the world as Dean Moriarty in Jack Kerouac’s classic, On the Road and for controversial literary figures Allen Ginsberg, Ken Kesey, Tom Wolfe and Hunter S. Thompson, Cassady was more than a friend, he was their muse and inspiration.
