Philip Seymour Hoffman Tribute: CAPOTE
February 20, 2019
Philip Seymour Hoffman gave the cinema world dozens of memorable performances before his untimely passing, but incredibly only won a single Academy Award – on his first nomination. As tribute to the late, legendary actor, we present CAPOTE.
CAPOTE sees the titular writer leaving his cushy New York life for Holcomb, Kansas, to research the case that would become his iconic “non-fiction novel” IN COLD BLOOD. Bennett Miller’s film examines that period of the author’s life, from his social disconnect with “everyday” America, to his relationship with fellow writer Harper Lee, to his eventual self-involvement in the case he’s supposedly researching.
Philip Seymour Hoffman disappears into his role as Truman Capote. Embodying not only the author’s idiosyncratic physical and vocal mannerisms, but also capturing the personality behind them, Hoffman turns in one his finest performances – amongst a roster full of all-timers. Painting a portrait of a man in love with himself and his work, Hoffman and Miller render Capote as a superstar in no world more than in his own.
