Pioneering on the Platte

Join SPREE as we pan for gold in the South Platte River, listen to Native American tales, make crafts, and take silly picture at our photo-booth. This event is free for the whole family, and lunch will be provided, but registration is required.
Free Family Event! Join SPREE for this celebration of Denver history at Grant Frontier Park. We will pan for gold in the South Platte River, listen to Native American stories, make crafts, and even take a silly photos at our Western photo-booth!
This annual event takes place on the eastside of Grant Frontier Park, a site that 160 years ago was called Montana City- the first chartered town in what is now Denver! Montana City’s main industry was GOLD, but the pioneers who moved their quickly realized that gold was not plentiful in their new town. The Montana City settlement lasted just a few months before residents moved to what is now downtown Denver. Join SPREE at this historical site and learn more about the history of our city and River. We will teach you and your family how to gold pan, learn about the Native Americans who lived in this space before the pioneers, and play on the newly renovated nature playground!
This event is FREE for families to attend and FREE food is provided, but registration is required through our website.
