Red-tailed Hawk Inclusive Playground Fundraiser

February 9, 2019

Interact Club at Rangeview HS is hosting a fundraising dinner to build an inclusive playground at Red-tailed Hawk Park. Tickets are $18 or $35 for 2. This is a first of it’s kind type of playground for all children.

Imagaine a family being able to bring their child who is in a wheel chair to this park and be able to play with their sibling and friends for the very first time. Red-tailed Hawk Park is where this will all happen. In October of last year, the Make a Wish Foundation reached out to Aurora’s Park and Recreation and Open Space (PROS) about a wish they had received. A 6 yr. old disabled boy and wheelchair bound who lives near Red-tailed Hawk park wished for a playground where he could play with his family and friends. About the same time this occured the Rotary Club of Aurora approached the City of Aurora as they also wanted to do something with the City involving kids and had also thought of an inclusive playground. PROS told us that they had been looking for a way to make such a park possible and felt that with a strong committment from the Rotary Club they could apply for a grant that would make this park possible. They applied for an Arapahoe County Open Space Grant and were informed last August that with the Rotary pledge and the City committment that they would receive a substantial grant. So…the Rotary Club of Aurora and the City are moving forward with the park and the students at Rangeview want to help. They have 200 more tickets to sell, so please email Linda at lwit2@msn.com for more info on how to get tickets.
