Seicento Baroque Ensemble presents Mad Madrigals

Before opera there was the madrigal comedy – unstaged fun, dramatic collections of short choral pieces that, when sung consecutively, told a story. This program will include portions of Adriano Banchieri’s Il Festino, as well as the sensuous, sexy (and for the time, racy) music of Italian and English madrigalists of the late 16th century and early baroque. Instruments like harpsichord and theorbo are featured. We welcome our founder and Artistic Director Emeritus Evanne Browne as she returns to guest-conduct this concert.
