Mike Nichols jubilant adaptation of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES pairs Robin Williams and Nathan Lane as a gay cabaret owner and a drag queen trying to pass for straight in order to be introduced to their son’s fiancee’s right wing parents (Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest). A huge box office success when released over twenty years ago, THE BIRDCAGE hasn’t been tempered by time and its message (and humor) is as important now as ever.
