The Wonders of the Whittier Neighborhood Walking Tour

July 29

When it comes to neighborhoods, nothing stays the same. No part of the city has always been this way or that way, and few of Denver’s historic neighborhoods exemplify that like Whittier.

When it comes to neighborhoods, nothing stays the same. No part of the city has always been this way or that way, and few of Denver’s historic neighborhoods exemplify that like Whittier. Named for a poet and abolitionist, it is among the first streetcar suburbs created in Denver. Originally a white, middle-class suburb, the neighborhood would go through numerous changes to its cultural and economic makeup over its many decades. We’ll hit the sidewalks to talk of Buffalo Bill, beer, architecture, pop-ups, lost schools, racial reckonings and a lot more. Every neighborhood has something to tell you, so let’s give Whittier its chance to impress you!

Walking Tour | Moderate—includes walking up to two miles on streets or easy trails, climbing stairs, or spending several hours outside.

Includes guide interpretation. Provide your own transportation to the starting location.
