Two gallery exhibits with unique interpretations of the world
April 6
Art Gym gallery is displaying two exhibits showcasing symbolic interpretations of a frozen moment in time to challenge our conditioned responses.
One interpretation is conveyed using paintings and sculptures while the other uses a unique screen printing technique. On Thursday, April 6th from 6-9, join us for the opening reception.
A visually stunning solo exhibition by Denver-based painter, muralist, and interdisciplinary artist Brandon Vargas called “Predators Pray” will be on display in the Art Gym Gallery. Finding inspiration through the lens of trail cams, Vargas explores the human relationship with animals that are normally out of sight and gives them an identity. “I wanted to create brightly colored, surreal, and dreamy work that explored the nature of animals, predation, and the complicated dynamic of viewing them through human morals and lens.” Using various mediums, his paintings and sculptures invite visitors into his dreamlike setting.
Our member gallery, the Leyden Jar, will display “DSPRS” from Art Gym Member Nam Nghiem. This in-depth screen printing exhibition takes everyday moments and challenges the way we are conditioned to react to them. “The work is produced by a strategy,” says Nghiem, “often using everyday visual occurrences as a starting point. The appropriated images then go through mishandling of different means of mechanical and digital processes until their original meanings are dissolved and create unforeseen abstractions.” Attendees will see the results of the transformational process as it relates to their own experiences.
