This year’s Veterans Day (also known as Armistice Day) marks the centenary of the signing of the armistice that ended World War I. The war inspired hope, anger, patriotic fervor and cynicism that were reflected in the poetry of the era. This one-act theatrical reading introduces the audience to the poets and poetry of World War I. The script was created by Joseph Hutchison and features poets from Europe and North America, from the poets who fought in the trenches to the newly emergent voices of women poets. An ensemble of actors from the One Night Stand and Vintage theaters will portray famous poets such as Thomas Hardy, Carl Sandburg, Edith Wharton, Robert Frost, Giuseppe Ungaretti and Wallace Stevens along with lesser known and almost forgotten poets like Mary Borden, Louise Driscoll and Alice Corbin Henderson.
One Night Stand Theater is a Denver-area theater company that has presented one-night-only evenings of theatrical staged readings for the past nine years, each with its own theme. Performances have featured folk tales, American history, old-time radio, social issues, and plays about war, romance, and world travel.
