Willow Elementary Naming Event
August 16, 2019
High Tech Elementary School will have a new name beginning in the 2019-20 School Year: Willow Elementary. The renaming ceremony will be at 5-5:30 p.m. on Aug. 16 on the school grounds, and will include a willow tree planting ceremony.
High Tech Elementary adopts new name: Willow Elementary School. Following an extensive process that resulted in valuable feedback from the entire High Tech Elementary School community, the school has decided on a new name beginning with the 2019-20 school year: Willow Elementary School.
This summer, the school will be undertaking a complete rebrand, with new name, logo, website, signage and more. Willow will be ready with its new identity when students arrive in the fall.
A renaming ceremony is planned for 5-5:30 p.m. on Aug. 16 at the school, and will include a willow tree planting ceremony on the grounds.
The name change was necessitated when a California-based network of charter schools called “High Tech High” cited trademark infringement and demanded the local school cease using “High Tech” in its name.
Throughout the renaming process, school leadership engaged in focus groups, CSC meetings and multiple surveys. The school is excited to move forward with the new name of Willow Elementary.
“We love the metaphor of a tree. It demonstrates life and growth, and underscores our school-wide focus on interconnectedness,” said Amy Gile, executive director of Teaching and Learning. “The willow tree that is native to Colorado is very adaptable. This is something we see within our school community – an ability to adapt to our students’ needs. We are excited about the school acronym of ‘W.E.’ It truly encompasses our vision for an inclusive school community.”
