Yefim Bronfman, piano

Pianist Yefim Bronfman will open Friends of Chamber Music’s 2019-20 season on September 11, 7:30 PM, in Gates Hall, Newman Center for the Performing Arts. Bronfman’s recital launches FCM’s year-long celebration of Beethoven’s 250th birthday.

Bronfman’s performance will include Beethoven’s three piano sonatas in Opus 10 as well as one of his greatest and most technically challenging works for piano, Sonata No. 23 in F Minor, Op. 57, Appassionata.

Bronfman, returning to FCM’s series for a second time, has been nominated for six GRAMMY® Awards, winning in 1997 with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Los Angeles Philharmonic for their recording of the three Bartók Piano Concerti. Born in Tashkent in the Soviet Union, Yefim Bronfman immigrated to Israel with his family in 1973, where he studied with pianist Arie Vardi. In the United States, he studied at The Juilliard School, Marlboro School of Music, and the Curtis Institute of Music, under Rudolf Firkusny, Leon Fleisher, and Rudolf Serkin.
