ller and the deep influence of gospel traditions helped establish the in
strument’s place in jazz\, its defining moment came in the 1950s. With
his electrifying command of the Hammond B-3\, Jimmy Smith transformed t
he organ from a fringe curiosity into one of jazz’s most recognizable
voices. This evolution is at the center of the Colorado Jazz Repertory O
rchestra’s program\, Jazz Organ Blues\, which explores the sound that
grew from these roots—blending blues\, swing\, and hard bop into a sty
le that remains a vital part of the jazz tradition.\n\nHonoring the trad
ition shaped by artists such as Jimmy Smith\, Jimmy McGriff\, Shirley Sc
ott\, and other jazz greats\, CJRO Artistic Director Drew Zaremba takes
his seat at the organ. He is joined by Steve Kovalcheck (guitar)\, Jim W
hite (drums)\, and vocalist Tatiana LadyMay Mayfield.\n\nThe CJRO is one
of the region's premier jazz ensembles\, featuring top-tier musicians d
edicated to honoring and expanding the jazz tradition. Known for their i
nnovative programming and electrifying performances\, the CJRO continues
to push boundaries while preserving the rich legacy of jazz. Read more
