Under the ACA, insurance carriers are no longer allowed to drop people when they get sick, refuse coverage due to pre-existing conditions or impose lifetime caps on coverage. They are required to provide maternity and newborn care, hospitalization, mental health and substance use disorder services; prescription drugs; rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices; laboratory services; preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management; pediatric services, including oral and vision care; and young adults can stay on their parents’ policy until they turn 26.
