Kinley Graves is an entrepreneur who started a dog treats business two years ago. In a neighborhood filled with many successful business owners, she may not sound all that remarkable until she reveals her age: she just turned 10.
Graves got the inspiration for her business from lemonade stands near her Central Park home. “I’ve always wanted my own business, and I love dogs, so I thought I should create a lemonade stand for dogs.” Initially, she sold dog toys and bandanas at the area dog park on weekends, but then she decided to expand her business by selling dog biscuits. She makes them in her parents’ kitchen using coconut flour, sweet potatoes, and peanut butter, and then stamps them with the Kinley’s K9 company logo
In addition to selling at the dog park, Graves sells online through Etsy and at events including First Fridays at Stanley Marketplace. She says that while she runs all aspects of the business, her parents did help her get started with a $500 business loan which she paid back after one year.
Graves was named a state finalist in the Young Americans Financial Center’s Youth Biz competition in the 6–11 age category. on Oct 24. To order Kinley’s K9 treats, visit www.KinleysK9.etsy.com
