High Tech will attend all DPS sponsored events.

At HTES we embrace our core value of Accountability, striving to prepare our students for academic excellence. We have consistently performed with an overall Meets Expectations (Green) rating on the DPS School Performance Framework (SPF) since our school opened; showing consistent impact for students within the Academic Gap indicators. Our 2018 CMAS results for Math (51% meets and exceeds) and English Language Arts (61% Meets and Exceeds), surpassed both the district and state proficiency levels. On the 2018 SPF, we scored Distinguished (Blue) for students of color and Meets Expectations for Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners. Historically, we have received an overall score of Meets Expectations for the academic gaps indicators. We are most proud of our growth in the sub category of Students with Disabilities. Shifting our scores into the “meets” category is a huge accomplishment for which we are very proud.

Inspire

Number of students:  325
Principal:  Marisol Enriquez Ph.D.
School Website: http://inspire.dpsk12.org
Tours/Open Houses:  http://inspire.dpsk12.org/parent-corner/open-houses/

Inspire did not qualify to be scored on a majority of the DPS SPF criteria resulting in atypical weighting of priorities. We were scored on only 25 of a possible 166 given that we served a small number of students (93) and were in our first active year with students. A typical DPS School has 72% weight applied for Academic Growth, 23% weight applied for Academic Performance and 5% weight applied for parent satisfaction. By comparison Inspire had 24% applied for Academic Growth, 40% weight applied for Academic Performance and 36% weigh applied for Parent Satisfaction. Had our SPF been assigned the typical DPS weights with its emphasis on Academic Growth, our overall rating would have been “Meets Expectations” (Green). Moreover, our momentum is continuing to build. This school year our students are already showing phenomenal growth due to the hard work of our teachers and staff in Early Literacy. Our students are making significant academic gains this year.  For example, 24% of our Kindergarten students were performing at grade level in August and in December of 2018 67% of students are performing at grade level.

Swigert International School is an International Baccalaureate School of 547 ECE through 5th grade students. The IB philosophy is conceptual and inquiry-driven, which allows students to dive deep into units of study around relevant issues; including communities around the world, animal migration, immigration, and conflict, just to name a few. Swigert students spend the entire day engaging in trans disciplinary units of study, in an environment where curiosity and risk-taking is encouraged. We are a community of learners and are striving to develop a sense of agency to think critically and take action in the world. For example, our first graders study change makers – from Martin Luther King to Mother Theresa, and then go out into the community and take action helping the homeless across the city. Last year, they organized a food drive and distributed over 2,000 bags of food and supplies for the homeless. The IB program also emphasizes international mindness; looking at issues globally and honoring cultural diversity. Over the past 5 years we have maintained strong proficiency on PARCC, ACCESS,  and early literacy measures. Our early literacy approach includes an Orton Gillingham approach for all K-3 learners. Alongside our strong academic programing we provide social emotional learning and support at all grade levels, emphasizing the whole child.

Tours by request –  720-424-6070

Extraordinary things are happening at Hallett Academy where our 2018 School Performance Framework (SPF) results have skyrocketed this year! Our current SPF rating is an accurate reflection of our present trajectory. Our academic gaps rating is an accurate reflection of what we believe students can do, and what actions we have taken to ensure that the needs of all our students are being met.

At Hallett, we believe in what our students can achieve. We have committed to restoring the Hallett community to a place where learning begins and never ends. Hallett Academy is a safe, positive, and inclusive place to learn, work, and grow.

Park Hill

Number of ECE -5 students: 721
Principal: Ken Burdette
http://www.parkhillelementary.org
Tours – Wednesdays 9am, https://www.signupgenius.com/ – to sign up

At Park Hill, we are dedicated to growing the whole child, not simply focusing on academic standards. Park Hill focuses on providing a broad and rigorous education to prepare a diverse community for college and ambitious life pursuits. We strive to be a neighborhood school with a small community feel, with a belief in the whole-child approach. The SPF is not unlike many other measures in that it has some strengths and some shortcomings.

As a principal, it is beneficial to have this data to drive our next steps as a school. Based on my review of the numbers and the data, Park Hill is a high achieving school, and whether we are high-green or low-blue on the SPF, I know our teachers and students are doing a great job overall.

Smith

Number of ECE-5 students: 383
Principal: Emily El Moudaffar
http://smith.dpsk12.org
Tours Wednesday 9:30am

Smith is an exceptional learning community making tremendous gains in student growth and achievement. Our increase in color ratings on the SPF from red, to orange, to yellow reflects that positive progress. We’re equally proud that our stand-out strength in developing a strong foundation for young readers was reflected. Moreover, the SPF highlights specific areas for growth that our staff utilizes in designing and implementing plans for improvement. In contrast, the SPF numbers can’t capture the heart of our community– it doesn’t measure the life-altering relationships with develop with students and their families. Nor does it reflect the joy and wonder of our learning spaces, the spark of passion in the eyes of our educators, or the resilience of our kiddos. It misses the deep-rooted pride Smith has in developing bilingual, biliterate young people. And it cannot measure the relentless spirit found throughout the halls and walls our our building. In closing, yes, the SPF is an accurate representation of the numbers, but our school community is so much more than just numbers.

Stedman

Number of ECE-5 students: 311
Principal: Greta Martinez (Principal Resident – Mike Atkins – recently confirmed as principal for next year).
http://stedman.dpsk12.org

Walking the halls of Stedman, you will be greeted by children who are comfortable navigating their academic and social space. You will experience small, structured classrooms full of thriving students absorbed by rigorous academic material as well as students engaged in both English instruction and Spanish Immersion. You’ll find teachers who are working hard to support the needs of their students and community partners volunteering to mentor, provide enrichment opportunities, and support our teachers’ work. You’ll find Stedman parents who actively engage in strengthening our community while also having fun building relationships. At dismissal, you will observe some students heading home, some headed to after school childcare, and some headed to self-selected enrichment activities.

All of Stedman’s stakeholders (students, teachers, parents, community members) believe in Stedman’s Mission and Vision and understand that it takes a village. While our historical data does not capture what is happening in today’s classrooms, we know that Stedman is on a path to being green on the SPF. One rating cannot accurately reflect the tremendous things currently happening in our building. We are Stedman Knights, a Community Growing Together.

Farrell B. Howell is an ECE-8 building that serves students in the Northeast region of Denver.

A strong sense of community can be felt when you walk into the building each morning and are greeted by staff and families alike. Our students feel a strong sense of community in their classrooms as well, which is seen in daily connection circles, student led restorative practices, and student led bully prevention programs.

Howell has recently adopted Leader In Me, a social-emotional and academic curriculum based upon Steven Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People which honors and fosters leadership characteristics in all learners. Students learn to identify their own genius, and apply this in their lives in and out of school.

To support the diverse student population at Howell, instruction is consistently differentiated for all leaners. This is seen in our strong English Language Development classes, opportunities for math and/or reading intervention based upon student needs, and specialized student support personnel.

The impact of this on student learning is Howell’s continued success in closing academic gaps for English Language Learners, as well as for all students across content areas.

Students graduate Howell with lifelong skills to be successful in all of their endeavors.

Odyssey School of Denver is a diverse, public DPS, K-8 Expeditionary Learning school. We teach students how to learn through a focus on academic achievement, critical thinking and social responsibility, preparing them for high school and beyond. Odyssey opened its doors in 1998 as a shared vision of a dedicated group of parents, teachers, and community members from the Park Hill area. Their specific goal was to design an innovative school based on the principals of Expeditionary Learning to serve a richly diverse community. Our vision for students is they will: take risks and innovate; lead with integrity and compassion; be civically and socially engaged; push themselves to exceed expectations; and embrace learning as a life-long adventure. Our school is small, allowing for deep relationships between student and teacher, staff and families. Adventure is a critical component of our Expeditionary Learning program for every student. Each “crew,” or class, camps twice each school year, with trips ranging from two to eight days. Through adventure, our students reach personal goals, build confidence, learn how to work as a team, and become more supple learners and leaders.
