It’s safe to say that business owners can’t control the timing of an election, or a snowstorm, or a power outage. They also can’t control all three things happening in the span of a few days in early November, like it did inside Stanley Marketplace in northwest Aurora.
On a mid-October evening, voters turned out for a ballot information session led by Pearlanne Zelarney with the League of Women Voters (LWV), a non-partisan grassroots organization.

On the same day the “Affordable Denver” tax proposal moved closer to the Denver ballot through a unanimous vote by a City Council committee, community members in northeast Denver listened to in-person pitches for the plan from Mayor Mike Johnston and City Councilwoman Shontel Lewis.

This fall, Denver voters will decide the new makeup of the Denver School Board and the outcome of two ballot measures. Election Day is Nov. 7, with ballots mailed out on Oct. 16. On April 4, Denver residents cast their votes in the contest for the mayor’s office and the races for the city council seats. The results of Election Day have determined the outright winners of some races, the remaining candidates in the runoff contests, and the voting patterns of the first round.
