Governor Polis announced a new bragging right for the state: Coloradans are purchasing electric vehicles (EV) at a higher rate than any other state.
The announcement came following new results from a Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management (NESCAUM) report showing Colorado surpassed California to become the top state in the country for EV sales. The sales report shows that in the third quarter of 2024, EVs made up 25.3 percent of new vehicles sold in the state. Eighty-two percent of EVs sold in Colorado were full electric vehicles, with the remaining 18 percent being plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
Colorado offers state tax incentives to EV buyers along with the federal incentives. The state is working to expand public charging options for car owners to add to the more than 5,500 public ports currently available across the state.
