Cups and Conversations Served Here

Winifred Harris and Rick Humbert created a breakfast place that would encourage community conversations.

Noting the rapid growth in Northfield, Rick Humbert and Winifred Harris set their sights on opening Intersections, a family-friendly breakfast and lunch spot filling a previously unavailable niche in the area. “There wasn’t breakfast in Northfield, and we wanted to open a place in the community we live in,” says Harris. Humbert has been a Stapleton resident for a decade and Harris has lived in Northfield for three years.

Humbert and Harris say Intersections is a place “where cups and conversation meet” and is their first foray into the full-service restaurant business. Humbert’s background in business accounting and Harris’s experience as a dancer and performing artist didn’t completely prepare them for the new challenges of running a restaurant. They both emphasize these are far outweighed by the rewards of membership in the Northfield business community and participating in community events. Open for seven months, Intersections is cultivating a following and gaining regular customers. “It’s fun to see people who come in again and again,” says Harris. “We make a point to have a conversation with every customer.”

Humbert says serving families is one of the special pleasures of co-owning the restaurant. He enjoys visiting with dads who “treat the kids to a weekend breakfast out” to give mom a little break, and vice versa. Customers are invited to “unplug and relax” or “plug in and do what they do.”

The partners acknowledge that they “thought long and hard about the menu” and are extremely pleased that people have responded favorably to the selections. Pointing out that children are reliable food critics, Humbert says he’s been told that their pancakes are highly rated by the “little ones.” Gluten-free and vegetarian selections are available.

The restaurant is available to the community for business meetings, fundraisers and social events. With a seating capacity of 63, Harris recommends patrons call ahead to reserve the space for groups.

Intersections is located at 8241 E. Northfield Blvd. and is open daily from 6am–2pm. For information about Intersections, visit their website at www.intersectionsof.com or call 303.963.5905.
