The 65 highly accomplished members of the Full Orchestra will perform selections from Mahler’s Fourth Symphony (Movements 1, 3, and 4). The Fourth Symphony – often referred to as “The Ode to Heavenly Joy” – was composed in 1900 and illustrates a human’s heroic suffering as well as a child’s view of Heaven. An extremely complex piece for young musicians, our students bring it glorious life.
In addition to providing a thrilling afternoon of music, this concert will support the DSA Full Orchestra Performance and Scholarship Fund which offers financial support to students in the advancement of their musical experiences at the Denver School of the Arts. With the support of the Fund, the DSA full orchestra will expand regional, national, and international performing opportunities for all students. The orchestra will perform local community outreach concerts for underserved populations and schools; participate in national music conferences, competitions, and festivals, and take advantage of international travel and performance opportunities to promote global awareness and evolving cultural ambassadorship.
