Registration Deadline: May 24, 2024

For the first time, Blaxplanation is going on the road!

Let’s travel to the Fort Garland Museum and Cultural Center to learn about the all-Black regimen post-Civil War: the Buffalo Soldiers. Nina Amos, the first female President of the Buffalo Soldiers 9th & 10th Horse Cavalry National Association, and Chip Thomas, the lead artist for the museum’s new exhibit buffalo soldiers: reVision, will guide us through an experience to engage with the histories, both inspiring and complicated, of the Buffalo Soldiers. We will meet with Ms. Amos and Mr. Thomas to discuss the new exhibit, as well as the museum’s previous work exploring the Buffalo Soldiers. This meeting of the historical with the artistic will give us an opportunity to engage with these real people and our responsibility to make sure their stories are continuously told.

Also included in this overnight tour is a cultural hike hosted by San Luis Valley Go and a Dark Night Sky viewing at the Great Sand Dunes National Park.
During this overnight trip, lodging, lunches, guides, speakers, and transportation will be covered by your ticket. You may drive yourself and meet us in Fort Garland, but please note that the ticket price will remain the same.

This will be a very active and jammed packed two days. Late night, early morning and full days are to be expected in this tour. If you would like to check the itinerary to see if this tour is for you, please click here
