Give Me My Corset or Give Me Death: Dress Reform and Controversy in Colorado: After decades of fighting for their rights, women in Colorado finally achieved the right to vote in 1893, making the state the first in the US to enact women’s suffrage by popular referendum. Evolving in tandem with the women’s suffrage movement was the dress reform movement, for which women donned looser clothing like bloomers and divided skirts to allow them a greater sense of movement when in public and participating in sports and outdoor activities.
