Spend a spirited happy hour with America’s 32nd president, back from the great beyond to remind the modern world of his legacy. (C-SPAN ranks him one of the top 3 presidents of all time. He’d like you to know that.)
Inspired by Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s real-life habit of hosting cocktail hour nearly every day at the White House to connect and unwind during challenging times, FDR’s Very Happy Hour is an immersive happy hour experience that mixes humor and history. Alongside cocktails, mocktails, and soft drinks (it is a happy hour, after all), the evening features game-show trivia, cozy activities to get the room talking, a different “changemaker” from the local community at every performance, and the occasional surprise guest. As FDR invites us to ponder life, a complicated legacy, and the pursuit of community, strangers become friends—and perhaps, together, we can find ways to talk with our neighbors again.
Prioritizing an accessible experience for as many as possible, open captioning, ASL interpretation, and design of the physical space for wheelchair access are part of the show. (Roosevelt was, after all, a wheelchair user.)
