Drake Real Estate Services confirmed the first five tenants in phase one of The Shops at Conservatory Green (located east of Valentia along Northfield Blvd.): Brixx Wood Fired Pizza, Stapleton MCA, a dentist office, Jersey Mike’s Sandwiches and Tokyo Joe’s Japanese and Sushi. Construction will start late March or early April. Tenants for phase two, located west of Valentia, will be announced in the near future.
I’ve also heard that Target has a stop on any other grocerers coming in. Not sure how long that is in effect; I was so sad to learn this.
It’s actually King Soopers that has first right of refusal on any grocery store that wants to come into Stapleton. So we’ll pretty much never get anything better, except for the proposed co-op.
It would be lovely if Whole Foods,Trader Joes or Sprouts could pay more attention to the needs of the Stapleton area. With the population growth, there is a definitel need for some “up market” grocery stores.
WF and Sprouts tend to look at urban trade areas with a population of 200,000+ that are middle income or above. Stapleton will be around 30,000 upon completion and is buffered by industrial zones and a wildlife refuge, which makes it a tough market for these concepts. This is why citizens of Stapleton are working hard to build a community-owned grocery store that will meet the needs of our neighborhood. But it is going to take the support of the community to get it going – join us at http://www.northeastco-op.org.
