Recruitment of a Diverse and Engaged Board

Stapleton United Neighbors (SUN) Outreach meetings in spring of 2019 will continue on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm in Central Park Recreation Center Multipurpose room. Meetings are open to the public and all are welcome to attend. Specifically, residents interested in civic engagement at the community level are encouraged to attend SUN’s monthly meetings. SUN is the registered neighborhood organization for the Stapleton area of Denver and is comprised solely of volunteers. Our mission is threefold: to provide a forum for our residents; to maintain a communication network between ourselves, our neighboring Denver residents, and the city of Denver; and to act on issues of importance to the community as a whole. SUN facilitates community discussion of key issues, encourages in proactive steps to avoid problems and conflict, and is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our community. SUN seeks to be comprised of a diverse group of community members who share this purpose and principles. Residents can nominate themselves or neighbors for a 2-year term on the SUN board in person at a monthly meeting or by emailing: StapletonUnitedNeighbors@gmail.com

 

Notice of Proposed Bylaw Changes: In-person Vote February 19

In light of feedback received after SUN’s May 2018 Annual Meeting, the SUN Board of Directors identified areas of its bylaws to update and streamline. Recommended changes are intended to add clarity, remove inconsistencies and modernize the By-Laws to better serve the needs of SUN and the community. Highlights of the changes are:

Voting rules will change to allow the board of directors to permit voting methods other than in-person voting if the board believes it is necessary for a particular vote.

Procedures at SUN board meetings will be clarified to ensure that consensus among board members is a primary goal while still ensuring the board is able to accomplish the business of SUN.

The bylaw amendment process will be modernized to account for the growth in the area since the bylaws were originally written by requiring a larger number of people (100) to propose amendments to the bylaws.

In general the bylaws will be reorganized to be clearer, more precise, and more accurate in describing the roles and responsibilities of all those involved with SUN.

At the December 18 SUN board meeting, the board voted to recommend the bylaw changes to the membership of SUN. Any changes recommended by the SUN board must be approved by members of SUN; a “member of SUN” is defined as any adult renting or owning property in the Stapleton community in Denver. At SUN’s February 19 meeting, members will be asked to vote (yes/no) on recommended changes. Full bylaws are available on SUN’s web site (see below).
