Bill Roberts K-8 School was selected to be this year’s recipient of the Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado (ALCC), Denver Chapter, day of service. Parent Alia Chiapella says of the new garden, “Students will be physically active through gardening, improve their nutrition by eating veggies and herbs they raised themselves, and apply the lessons they learned through caring for and managing the garden.”
The contractors rebuilt two raised planters, improved garden soil quality, added a drip irrigation system to the entire garden, widened paths to make the area easily accessible for disabled students, and planted native and water-wise plants in an existing large round planter (shown above). One of the first grade classes already started seedings to get a head start on the vegetable garden.
