Neighborhood Watch is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the United States. Numerous studies have shown that thoughtful communication between residents and the police department reduces crime and creates safer neighborhoods.

The current Neighborhood Watch program in Stapleton is being updated. Some of your neighbors who are volunteers in police service (VIPS) are assisting in the development of this program. The primary role of a Neighborhood Watch captain is to act as a conduit between District 5 and the residents of your block. Specifically,

DPD D5 will notify you of criminal activity in your neighborhood. You, in turn, will notify the residents of your block of this activity using email, text, or social media.

DPD D5 will provide you with area specific crime prevention tips to share with the residents of your block.

That’s it!

Some blocks currently do not have a Neighborhood Watch captain so we need to recruit in every quadrant of Stapleton. Ideally, I would like to have one on every block!

There is an overwhelming number of social media platforms and other places to get information, including our District 5 Facebook page and Nextdoor.com. But, moving forward, to have the best and most efficient lines of communication with the residents of Stapleton about what’s happening in the community, the primary way we will be sending out information about criminal activity and crime prevention will be to the Neighborhood Watch Captains. So if you want to be in the know, please join as a Neighborhood Watch Captain!
