New Composting Options in 2014

Going green is now easier than ever.

Stapleton resident Ellen Dage is proposing a partnership with the Urban Farm to start Happy Dirt, a community composting service for the Stapleton area. She will start the business when she has enough interested customers. The cost will be $15 a month or $130 up front for a year. Each paying customer will receive a 5-gallon bucket to fill with compostable items (check website for allowed items). Every week Dage will pick up the buckets from front porches or curbs and replace them with a clean bucket. The compost will be taken to the Urban Farm. Collection will begin in March. If interested, contact Ellen Dage at ellen@gethappydirt.com or 517.325.3837.

Denver Public Works has recently expanded its composting service, but it is still only available in certain areas. To check if you are eligible, visit DenverGov.org/DenverRecycles or call 311. Eligible Denver residents receive a large green compost cart (similar to the purple recycling cart), which is collected weekly for a cost of $29.25 every three months or $117 a year.
