New school in Aurora? CAB member Nadine Caldwell said Aurora Public Schools is in the early stages of evaluating a possible Aurora Public Schools (APS) high school campus on the north side of 25th Ave. between Fulton and Iola streets. Caldwell said Superintendent Rico Munn mentioned this at a March 10 meeting of the Northwest Aurora Neighborhood Organization (NANO). When contacted to elaborate, the APS superintendent’s office declined further comment. In this corridor, APS owns the K-5 Fletcher Community School site as well as a parcel located at the northeast corner of Fulton St. and 25th Ave. This block abuts the portion of Stapleton located in Aurora south of 26th Ave. where a 322-unit residential neighborhood is just beginning to be developed.

The Heights at Westerly Creek: A Littleton developer has applied for a rezoning of 16 lots in Aurora immediately southeast of the Stanley to permit development of a seven-story mixed-use building (retail and up to 115 dwelling units). Current uses are a body shop and an appliance storage yard. The L-shaped parcel lies between Dallas and Dayton streets just south of 25th Ave. The requested SIR zoning (sustainable infill and redevelopment) would allow a mix of uses not permitted under the existing industrial zoning. The request goes to the Aurora Planning Commission on April 27.

Century Square: A development group is pursuing the rezoning of a nine-acre parcel it owns at the southwest corner of Colfax and Havana in Aurora, site of a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market, several small retail stores and a handful of residences. SIR zoning would replace business and residential zoning with allowed mixed-use buildings (retail/ office first floor, residential above). City staff has recommended approval. The item is scheduled for Planning Commission and City Council hearings over the two months.
