Puppy Attacked in Tragic Incident

A labradoodle puppy being walked by its owner in Westerly Creek Park on April 15 was attacked by two lab-mix dogs attached to leashes on their owner’s waist. According to a report from Denver Animal Care and Control (in which names are deleted), the labradoodle’s owner stepped off the path as the two dogs, barking aggressively, came toward her. The labs dragged their owner toward the puppy and pinned him down and began biting him. The animal control officer wrote, “(The puppy) had a large gash on his neck and chest area.” He was taken to the vet but was unable to recover from the injuries and died 36 hours later.

The owner of the labs was given a citation to appear in court on two violations of the leash law (dogs have to be both on a leash and under the control of the owner) and two attacks. Police also determined that the labs’ owner was driving a vehicle with a stolen license plate.
