Sprouts or No Sprouts?

03/01/2019  |  by Carol Roberts

The Stapleton United Neighbors (SUN) neighborhood survey of almost 1,000 residents revealed the single most-desired future retail amenity in Stapleton is Sprouts (for survey results, click here). Flash back to June 2017. A community meeting was held announcing Forest City’s development plans next to Central Park Station. At that meeting, David Friedman showed plans for a 7.2 acre retail and residential development on the southeast corner of Uinta St. and 36th Ave. called The Village at Central Park Station. Sprouts was announced as the anchor store of Friedman’s development. In fall 2017, Friedman shared additional details of the project, printed in the October 2017 Front Porch. At the beginning of June 2018, Forest City confirmed Friedman had purchased the property.

Flash forward to February 2019. After multiple phone and email attempts requesting information from the developer, we have not received a single response. An inquiring resident, however, found a commercial real estate firm soliciting tenants for a project called The Shops at A Line Square. Their brochure shows it to be Friedman’s project with a new name. But instead of a Sprouts, the brochure just indicates an unnamed 30,000 square foot grocery store. When the inquiring neighbor contacted Sprouts, they replied that they had no confirmed information for a store at that location in Stapleton, but to “check the website for the most up-to-date information on all new grand openings.”

So…maybe no Sprouts.

Or…maybe there is hope. Further checking revealed the real estate firm’s online listing of the project does include a brochure with the Sprouts name and logo, and the listing cites an occupancy date of September 2019. With no ground moved as of now, we know the project won’t be completed in September. But we don’t know anything more. Let us know if you get further information.

I talked to a working on the site today who finished the prep work and said they are likely breaking ground next week.

In our June NE Updates we ran the information provided by the developer, David Friedman, at the recent Stapleton United Neighbors meeting.
Sprouts Construction to Start by June
David Friedman spoke briefly at the annual meeting of Stapleton United Neighbors in May to announce that his development, located between 35th and 36th on the west side of Central Park Blvd. “is about to break ground. It will include Sprouts and 12,000 feet of additional retail.” It is scheduled to be turned over to Sprouts the first of April 2020 and will likely open in May 2020. He added, “The residential component has fallen behind the commercial, but we’re hoping to have something to announce there fairly quickly.”

I don’t see any reason to increase skepticism and spread worry that the project isn’t happening or that Sprouts has pulled out. Why didn’t you reach out to David Hicks Lampert about the project? I contacted them myself for leasing a space in this development and they replied same day.

We’re happy to hear you received an immediate response to your inquiry about leasing space. As stated in the article, we made “multiple phone and email attempts” both to David Hicks Lampert and David Friedman and received no response. We ultimately explained in a detailed email that we’d found a brochure about the project without Sprouts and one with Sprouts and asked for a direct response on the status of the development confirming or updating the information on David Hicks Lampert website, which we suggested would be more information than our mixed information. We received no response.

Thanks for the update. Please keep updating the site as you get more info.

Sounds like whatever will end up in those field will be nothing like the renders and master plans for “Central Park Station”. Looks more likely it’s just a parking lot and a few businesses.

Any updates on Centerfield? They’re grading the land but they doesn’t mean it’s been sold or have any real plans other than BS drawings they do
