The DPS Board voted 7-0 in favor of reserving 25 percent of the seats in Stapleton’s five shared-boundary elementary schools for those who live in a school’s priority zone. No children currently attending one of these elementary schools will be required to change schools as a result of this proposal. The policy just applies to new students at these five schools. The top four priorities, stated below, ALL apply to Stapleton-area shared-boundary residents.

For grades 1 through 5, priorities are: 1) Currently attending students, 2) Students with siblings currently attending and returning to the school, 3) Children of full-time staff at the school and 4) 25 percent of the seats remaining are reserved for proximity-zone students.

For grades ECE and K: 1) Students with siblings currently attending and returning to the school, 2) Students who are currently attending ECE at the school, 3) Children of full-time staff at the school, 4) 25 percent of the seats remaining are reserved for proximity-zone students.

As a result of this expansion of a shared elementary-school boundary covering a large geographic area and to ensure equitable allocation of transportation resources across the district, current transportation routes and stops will need to be significantly modified. This will mean fewer bus stops, requiring many students to walk farther to get to their closest stop.
