Seven individuals who contributed greatly to the health and well-being of residents in our local communities were honored at the 4th annual be well and Community Celebration held Nov. 15. The be well zone includes the neighborhoods of Stapleton, Greater Park Hill, NE Park Hill, East Montclair and NW Aurora. Sen. Mark Udall was the event’s guest speaker. The following recipients and awards were: Thal Woods for Physical Activity Leadership; Judy Schure for Nutrition Leadership; Lelia Odom and Bob Semro for Community Advocate Leadership; Kathryn Kollowa for Preventative Care Leadership; Luis Parello for Youth Leadership; and Dr. Noah Makovshy for Outstanding Provider Leadership. The varied achievements included providing free fitness activities and health education for youths, spearheading healthy living programs in schools, educating the public about the Affordable Care Act and accessing care, facilitating community health screenings, serving with distinction on the be well Youth Council, and being a dedicated doctor who takes time with patients to ensure they understand how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
