Construction Goes into High Gear

Stapleton Construction

Work is underway on the new King Soopers at MLK and Havana. The retail center just to the west is being built simultaneously and both are scheduled to open in November 2016.

The doldrums of the Great Recession have been blown away by the winds of a strong real estate market in Stapleton. From one end of the former airport to the other, construction crews are laying the foundation for the next surge in development. On the north end, in Section 10 adjacent to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge, a fleet of earth moving equipment is re-shaping the ground for roads and drainage systems that will serve the first filing of 810 dwellings. On the south end, similar work is preparing the way for 26th Avenue Park and the 322-unit portion of Stapleton in Aurora. And in between, an abundance of residential, commercial, institutional and infrastructure projects is causing passers-by to do double-takes and ask – what’s going on over there? Here is the Front Porch’s visual guide to current development activities in Stapleton.
