When I initially saw this graph, I was very confused about the information it represented and what it ultimately means. What age/school age level does this represent? Does it include ECE? Why is there such a discrepancy in the Swigert information? Are there that many children within the boundary not able to get into their boundary school? And why is there no information for WC, IBC and High Tech? I think if anything, this graph shows how the choice process needs to be changed and updated to the changes in our community.

Elementary refers to K-5. The elementary choice system does not include ECE.
All the schools are in the Stapleton boundary. All Stapleton residents get into a boundary school, but they may not get into their first choice boundary school.
For whatever reasons, there were a lot of first choice requests for Swigert and it ended up with 102 on the wait list. Bill Roberts had 40 on the wait list. Westerly Creek, Isabella Bird and High Tech had zero on their wait list.
The chart shows the number of boundary students’ first choice requests for each school in blue and the number of boundary students attending each school in red.
We think we’ll have an article on Stapleton’s elementary choice system in our June issue.
