MacKenzie Hardt is part of the community, whether it’s flipping pancakes alongside his wife, Abby, at Winter Bike to Work Day; leading a bike bus to a school; or running a Kidical Mass event. The Hardts host 40 free events a year. Now the community is stepping up to help them in return.

New Aurora Council Member Hosts First Community Meeting
Residents of northwest Aurora filled a room at the Moorhead Rec Center Thursday night. Some with notebooks in hand and questions ready, they were there to hear from new city council member Gianina Horton in her first Ward I public meeting since her election last November.
Small Business Owner Works Through Challenges
In mid-November, Holland sent an email to members announcing the closure of Upswell, a business that offers fitness and recovery programs. Twelve hours later, she received what she called a “wave of people,” urging her to figure out how to reopen the doors. She started making calls, asking, “If we could open for a few days [a week], could you come back?”

Gianina Horton was born and raised in Denver. At 33, she is the eldest of six siblings and now lives in northwest Aurora, where in November she was elected to represent the area as the new city council member for Ward I. Her district includes parts of Central Park, Original Aurora, the University of Colorado Anschutz, and the Aurora Cultural Arts District.
